REVIEW: Star Wars Resistance: "The Mutiny"

It's been no secret that, with the exception of Synara, I can't stand Kragan and his pirate crew. I thought, even for kids show standards, they were way too annoying and over-the-top, and it made me wonder why we had to put up with them for so long in season two.

Thankfully, this episode was very cathartic for me, because, hopefully, we will never have to see them again.

The episode sees Kragan buying a group of old B2 super battle droids, which he uses to start a mutiny to take over the Colossus. I have to say, it's always awesome to see battle droids again, especially since this season takes place over 50 years after the Clone Wars, and over 60 if you count the Battle of Naboo during the Phantom Menace.

Kragan uses Neeku to fix the battle droids, which at first I thought was really stupid for Neeku to do. However, that fear quickly vanished once Neeku reveals he was used as a spy for Captain Doza, and programs a lone B1 battle droid, (that was with the super battle droids), to act as its commander and arrest the pirates.

This episode not only made me realize how resourceful Kaz has gotten, but also how resourceful and clever Neeku has gotten since we've met him. Don't get me wrong, he can still be an air-head and take things too literally, but his trick of the pirates was handled pretty well.

One thing I also liked in this episode was Synara finally turning against Kragan and trying to put a stop to his plans. I've always liked Synara and her development, and her decision to finally turn was not only justified, but felt satisfying, as if someone is finally leaving a local gang to clean their life up and do good.

Of course, she still begs Doza to banish them rather than imprison them, but at least now, we don't ever have to see them again...hopefully.

Overall, this was a really fun and entertaining episode that finally, I guess, ended a running arc of the show dealing with the pirates. Now, with five episodes of the show left, my hope is that they completely focus on finishing the main story properly with no other major distractions along the way.

In case anyone was wondering, I wanted to explain how the droids in this episode came to be. Kragan bought the droids from this guy, Sidon Ithano, who was a background character in The Force Awakens. Before the film came out, he was the main character in a short story called "The Crimson Corsair and the Lost Treasure of Count Dooku."

To make a long story short, he and his crew found an old Separatist battle ship filled with the droids, as well as a surviving clone trooper who was frozen in stasis named Kix, who we actually saw in The Clone Wars. This story took place right before the events of The Force Awakens, meaning Kix is still alive and a part of Sidon's crew. We didn't get to see Kix in this episode, which disappointed me, but I won't hold that against the episode too much, because that probably would have confused the average viewer on how a clone trooper survived this long.
