REVIEW: Star Wars Resistance: "Station to Station"
Well, that was certainly better. In fact, this episode, "Station to Station," is quite possibly my favorite episode of the season so far. It has great tension, stakes, and a personal conflict that compels it to be a great episode of the show.
The set up is Kaz, Neeku, and CB-23 are aboard a First Order fueling station, that's the same model ship of the Colossus, to get a vital part for the Colossus, to prevent it from being destroyed. So, no pressure or anything like that. On top of that, General Hux, Commander Pyre, Rucklin, and Tam are all aboard the ship for various reasons.
So the first two-thirds of the episode was divided into two stories. The first was Tam feeling homesick about the Colossus, and her feeling somewhat bad about joining the First Order. Like I said before, I still expect Tam to defect back to the Colossus at some point in the season, but for now, it still is compelling to see her struggle between her new loyalty to the First Order, and her past love of the Colossus.
Speaking of compelling, the mission undertook by Kaz and Neeku was also tense and compelling to me. I guess I'm a sucker for spying episodes in Star Wars. It also helps that Kaz actually acted competent in this episode and not like a bumbling buffoon, which was great to see. There was also a great moment between Kaz and Hux where Kaz hit him for destroying his home planet.
Although, if I had one complaint with the episode, is the voice of Hux. I understand they couldn't get his actor from the movies, Domhnall Gleeson, but the voice they got for him sounds NOTHING like him at all. It's over the top like Gleeson, but that's about it.
Overall, this episode proves that when Resistance focuses on its main plot and characters, it can be great. There's even a nice moment when Tam secretly allows Kaz and Neeku to escape, which may or may not come back to haunt her in the future.
Let's have more episodes like these to finish off the show, and not episodes where Kaz has a "curse."
