REVIEW: Star Wars Resistance "Rendezvous Point"
Well, that was a lot better. After a few weeks of mediocre episodes, Resistance returned to having a good episode this week with "Rendezvous Point." The episode did a good job of mixing action and drama, while introducing a new character significant to Torra.
The episode literally starts out with a battle between the Aces and the First Order, as Captain Doza is waiting for a pilot to meet them. However, they are forced to retreat, and the pilot shows up right when the Colossus leaves. Why, it's Venisa Doza, wife of Captain Doza and Torra's mother. Apparently, she was the one that made Doza defect from the Empire, served with Yeager with the old Rebellion, left to join the Resistance six years ago, and meets with her family once a year on Torra's birthday, which was that day.
Obviously, that's a lot of exposition to dump for one character in an episode, but the episode does a good job in letting you get to know her personality, as well as her droid Torch. You can certainly see where Torra not only gets her skills as a pilot, but her spunky personality and charm.
A big chunk of the episode is spent on Venisa essentially getting under Tam's skin, as she recognizes her from her daughter's stories, as she tries to convince her that joining the First Order was a mistake, but it is not too late to turn back. Deep down, I think Tam doesn't like joining the First Order, and I fully expect her to defect by the end of the series. That being said, it was still interesting hearing the two of them talk and discuss both sides of the war, even if Tam tried to silence any doubt she may have had in her mind.
Of course, it being Star Wars, Venisa is able to escape with the help of her droid Torch. I will say this though, this was probably the most violent episode of the show so far. You obviously don't see any blood or gore, but you do see stormtroopers getting blasted, and tons of explosions resulting in deaths.
In the end, Kaz and the rest of the Aces celebrate Torra's birthday, and her and Captain Doza reflect on their family, stating they will always be a family, even if they aren't always together.
Overall, like I said earlier, this was a really good episode, filled with good action and character moments. I just hope we see more internal conflict with Tam going forward, so that way, when she eventually does defect, it doesn't seem as rushed or out of place.
