DISCUSSION: The Mandalorian: D23 trailer
During D23, the vast majority of the public, who didn't attend Star Wars Celebration, got their first look at first Star Wars Disney+ show, and the first live-action Star Wars show, The Mandalorian. Granted, even though it was listed as a trailer, it felt more as a teaser. Still, in that regard, it does a decent enough job for people to get a sense of the tone and direction of the show, as this show will explore the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars universe, in what most likely will be a personal story of a lone guneman going around dealing with personal struggles, dealing with the remnants of the Empire, and him teaming up with an "interesting" cast of characters to say the least.
One thing to I got to say, is that the budget and production of the show look top notch for TV, and could probably even rival shows like Game of Thrones and Stranger Things for how far like a movie a show can emulate...minus the water bottles and coffee cups.
Like I mentioned before, the tone feels dark and gritty. Granted, it will probably be rated TV-14 rather than TV-MA, but still, I've been wanting Star Wars, at least in the new canon, to get this dark and dive deep into the underworld. Granted, the new canon has dabbled in it before, but never on this scale and tone.
Also, the show will take place five years after Return of the Jedi, so like I mentioned before, we will get to see the remnants of the Empire trying to cling onto the last of their influence and power in a "lawless galaxy."
We also see glimpses of some of the characters in the show besides the Mandalorian, and one of the characters people are excited for is IG-11, and IG droid in the same line as IG-88, that is voiced and motioned captured by Taiki Waititi. Overall, while the trailer didn't show much, I'm still excited to see the show in action, and I'm excited to see the future of Star Wars on Disney+, which for right now, includes this show, the Cassian Andor series, the final season of The Clone Wars, and of course, the lung-rumored and finally confirmed Obi-Wan series staring Ewan McGregor! Hello There!
OK, I had to bring up this moment. The Mandalorian beats up someone, he tries to run away, but the Mandalorian grabs him by some grapple rope, and he shoots a door, crushing him to death with it. Needless to say, that was my favorite show in the trailer.
