REVIEW: Star Wars Resistance "No Escape Part One"

This week's episode of Resistance was certainly a treat for me, as many things I predicted would happen to the show and characters took place. Does this predictability mean the episode was bad? No, of course not. If anything, the things that I predicted and wanted to see, which took place, makes the show that much more interesting not only going into the season finale, but for season two.

The episode starts out with tensions finally boiling over between Captain Doza and Pyre, as, after a scuffle, Doza is finally placed under arrest by the First Order, fully completing the First Order's takeover of the Colossus. I knew it was coming, but like I said before, it was a story element that I wanted to see, as it sets up greater stakes to the story going forward. Or course, seeing how Doza reacts to everything that has happened with the First Order, I imagine that is the reason why he probably left the Empire years ago, as I imagined he initially joined with the promise of him doing good things to the galaxy...only to see the twisted ways the Empire ruled the galaxy.

Throughout the episode, we see Agent Tierney fully try to convince Tam to turn her back against her friends and join the First Order, which she seems to fully consider at the end.

First things first, the main reason for this change of heart is that she sees an integration of Yeager, in which he lies and says he was the Resistance spy telling stuff to Kaz. I think that's awesome that Yeager would be willing to take the fall for Kaz, as it shows how their bond has grown over the season.

However, for Tam, this shows, at least in her eyes, that both her mentor and her co-worker didn't trust her enough to tell her the full extent of their plan. In our eyes, as the audience, we know the First Order is bad and that they kept their distance to protect her. However, to the untrained eye, I can totally see why she feels betrayed and why the First Order would seem tempting. I've had my problems with Tam over the season, however, if this was all a setup to have Tam become a sympathetic villain in season two, I think that would be a great development and twist for the show.

Eventually, Neeku, Kel, and Eila help Kaz and CB-23 get inside the part of the ship were the prisoners are being held. And yes, I said ship, in addition to helping Kaz fight off troopers in an interesting underwater sequence, the trio discovers the Colossus has a hyperdrive, meaning the station can actually take off to space, which Kaz ordered Neeku to do.

I had a feeling for awhile that the Colossus acted as a space station too, but it is great to see it be confirmed. I imagine after next week's finale, the Colossus will take off and be used as a sort of base of operations for Kaz, and perhaps for even the Resistance as a whole, considering what happens next.

Eventually, through a series of events, Kaz, CB-23, and Torra witness a holotransmission of General Hux's speech from the Force Awakens, meaning, as I predicted and wanted, we see the destruction of Hosnian Prime and its surrounding planets. Obviously, this is something I predicted would happen since the start of the show, as I imagined the first season would end close to, or during the events of the sequel trilogy. Still, it was nice to see because it shows the entire First Order, and probably millions more across the galaxy, saw what happened live, and it was a truly devastating moment for Kaz, as his entire childhood and family literally blew up right in front of him.

That's how the episode ends, so I imagine Kaz will have real extra motivation to stop the First Order. Overall, while I admit, the episode was a lot slower than I thought it was going to be, it did serve as a nice setup to the finale next week, while also potentially building on interesting new ideas for the show going forward.
