REVIEW: Star Wars Resistance "The Disappeared"
The last few episodes of Resistance has been showcasing just how the First Order is taking control of the Colossus, which this episode expands upon even more of. This episode was also interesting, in that, it shows an example on how the First Order, across the galaxy, tries to not only recruit people towards their cause...but also silence those who dare speak against them.
Under the guise of "protecting everyone," Commander Pyre forces Captain Doza to not only cancel all future races on the platform, but to have all the Aces grounded as well. The episode does a good job in making the First Order intimidating, for a kids show, as it shows just how controlling the First Order is, and how powerless Doza is on his own platform.
The episode also shows an example of how the First Order tries to recruit others by placing recruitment holograms in Aunt Z's tavern, which she of course, can't stand.
Eventually, people on the Colossus, such as Z and Hype either question the First Order's actions, or outright verbally protest them, which results in them getting taken, under the guise of them gone missing, to be shipped off-world. Again, I thought this was handled well, and felt these incidents are but a microcosm of what the First Order likely does throughout the galaxy, and I thought it was really cool to have the bad guys display their authority and get away with it for the longest time.
Eventually, Kaz and Torra catch wind of this, and decide to rescue everyone taken away before it's too late. What was most interesting was Captain Doza and Yeager were having a secret meeting about disabling the First Order's communications to get a message to the Resistance. I like the idea of Doza going secretly behind the First Order's back, and I hope this plan is brought up again in the season's final episodes.
I want to dedicate this section solely on Tam. I'm really starting to dislike her character a lot. Number one, I was never the biggest fan of her since she's been written one-note and haven't been developed that much.
However, what's really annoying me about her is just how naive and stupid she is about the First Order. The first time they showed up, fine, I can see why she would take their side, considering her grandfather was in the Empire. However, at this point in time, with all the evidence and events that have taken place so far, how in the world can you even defend them? There's being optimistic, and then there's just being blind, clueless. I understand, again, it's going to be an eye-opener once the First Order really exposes their evil ways, but right now, it's really starting to frustrate me whenever she shows up on screen, and that's not a good thing.
Eventually, through a series of "Kaz-style" events, Kaz, CB-23, and Torra are able to find and rescue the prisoners. The prisoners manage to leave the planet to visit a friend of Z's on Takodana, which, of course, is Maz Kanata. Though, considering the battle that takes place on the planet during the film, I wonder if Hype and Z wil manage to escape and survive the First Order again.
Eventually, Kaz and Torra return to Yeager's shop where Pyre and the stormtroopers are waiting to arrest them. Honestly, that caught me a little by surprise, but serves as a great cliffhanger for the next episode. It makes me wonder if the First Order found out about Kaz on their own, or if they were notified by someone.
Overall, minus my frustrations with Tam, this was another solid and interesting episode to me. The First Order has essentially taken full control, so the final episodes of the season will be about how Kaz leads the members of the Colossus to rebel and fight back, which I can't wait to see.
