REVIEW: Star Wars Resistance "The Core Problem"

This episode marks a turning point for Resistance, as this episode takes place practically a day or two before the events of the Force Awakens. As such, the closer we get to the film's timeframe, the more and more Kaz learns about the First Order...and as such, it's most dangerous weapon.

Poe manages to sneak aboard the Colossus, telling Kaz he needs BB-8 to go with him to a mission to Jakku, which, as we all know, is the beginning of the Force Awakens. Before they go, Kaz tells Poe of the information he got over the last few episodes, so they decide to investigate a mysterious signal in the outer rim.

It's hear that we see an entire system's sun gone. This, as we know, is how Starkiller Base's main cannon operates. Still, it's cool to see not only how the First Order takes energy for its weapon, but to see how Poe and Kaz react to this, as they are slowly trying to put the pieces together into what is going on. To me, personally, I find it very interesting when people try to put things together that we, as the audience knows, as nobody really knew what the First Order was planning until it was far too late.

Kaz and Poe even fly through a planetoid, where they get caught in its gravity well. The sequence the pair goes through to escape is visually stunning, as it proves the show knows how to make flying look good.

Eventually, Poe and Kaz come across an empty village on a nearby planet. It's hear that we, as the audience realize the First Order killed everyone in the village in order to leave no witnesses towards its plans. It makes you wonder if this planet is Tehar where Eila and Kel are from. It would be an interesting turn of events.

Eventually, Kaz, Poe, and BB-8 get attacked by a First Order probe droid. Design-wise, it's the most unique design I've seen for a probe droid, as it looks far more intimidating than the ones we've seen by the Empire and Separatists during the Clone Wars.

Eventually, First order pilots get the signal and attack the rebels. It's a cool sequence, with Poe and Kaz using their "skills" with the gravity well to escape and outwit the First Order.

In the end, Poe and Kaz swap droids, with Poe getting BB-8 back, and Kaz getting CB-23, who has appeared throughout other episodes this season. I knew that BB-8 wouldn't be in the show forever, but still, his appearance on the show was still enjoyable, with him getting some of the best and funniest highlights throughout the season. This also represents how I felt about this episode, as I thought it was really good, but also acts as a stepping stone to other stories ahead.

Still, his removal further signals that six months have passed since the beginning of the show, and that now, going forward, the show will now take place during the timeframe of the sequel trilogy, which is exciting, as we now get to see how other people in the galaxy react to the First Order going on the offensive, and eventually, declaring war on the galaxy.
