REVIEW: Star Wars Resistance "The First Order Occupation"
After last week's episode set the stage for the First Order setting up security on the Colossus, this week's episode fully showcased that, as the First Order essentially begins to take control of the station and setting up...what basically the Empire did before it, oppressing others.
Obviously Kaz, Yeager, and by extension the audience, knows that the First Order are up to no good, but what I find interesting is that there are people on the Colossus, including Tam and Neeku, who don't think the First Order are that bad at all. In fact, they are glad they are there to provide extra security. I liked that dynamic during the episode, as in this point in time, most people in the galaxy thought the First Order wasn't a threat, just a leftover of the Empire. Ultimately, their assumptions are wrong of course, but I still find it interesting how people in the galaxy thought there was good in the First Order.
Eventually, the First Order begins to suspect Kaz of wrongdoing, and deduce that Synara is the pirate spy. Therefore, Kaz embarks on a mission to try and get her off of the ship, because, you know, the power of hormones is strong.
The vast remainder of the episode is essentially that, Kaz and BB-8 trying to get Synara off the station, even if BB-8 doesn't like the idea. The sequence of events is pretty entertaining, though, there are times where Kaz should have been seen and/or caught, but he is either saved by luck of pure stupidity by the stormtroopers.
One thing I can say is that there were moments in this episode that I did find comedic, which I won't spoil. There were also moments were Neeku shined in helping Kaz. Eventually, Synara is able to escape and return to her pirate gang. Before she leaves, she thanks Kaz for his help and said this whole experience has opened her eyes to many things. Which means she is clearly going to help Kaz later in the season.
Overall, this was a pretty entertaining episode as the First Order slowly begins to impose their will on the Colossus. It's only a matter of time until the First Order takes full control and declares martial law, which will be a big moment for everyone on the ship who liked them in the first place.
