REVIEW: Star Wars Forces of Destiny Season 2 Part 2

Well, this was a little unexpected. To celebrate May the Fourth, Disney released seven more episodes of Forces of Destiny. And...(I'm going to sound like a broken record) the shorts ranged from average to decent. They're nothing special, but can be entertaining if you're in the right mindset. Plus, the stories, while nothing amazing, do a good job of maintaining the established lore that was set up beforehand.

Alright, I'll go over of quick recap of what happened each episode and what I thought of them. "Chopper and Friends," which takes place after Return of the Jedi, sees Chopper working with Ewoks to take down Tie Fighters. Not with sticks though. The Ewoks actually shoot down the Tie Fighters with the Ghost's guns. Not going to lie, I got a kick out of seeing that. "Monster Misunderstanding" is basically Padme and Naboo royal guards rescuing a baby creature from poachers, nothing special. "Art History" takes place on Mandalore and follows Sabine and her brother Tristan (before the Rebels Season 4 premiere) trying to save an old Mandlorian statue. It was decent. "Porgs," takes place during the Last Jedi on Ach-To with Chewie helping Porgs find moss. The episode is cute despite the dull premise.

"Perilous Pursuit" is actually based on a deleted scene for the Force Awakens, showing Rey and Poe working together to escape First Order troopers. The episode was ok, though I didn't like how they blatantly ripped some of Finn's lines straight from the Force Awakens. Also, in the timeline, this takes place directly before...Han's scene with Kylo...so the cheery tone is kind of...ironic. "Traps and Tribulations" takes place after Return of the Jedi, and shows Luke and Leia working with Ewoks to take down a creature called a Gorax (which is from Legends). Once again, it's cool to have Mark voice Luke again, even if he sounds like the Joker. Finally, "A Disarming Lesson" shows Ahsoka teaching a lesson in the force to Ezra, which was a really cool scene and interaction to watch.

Once again, the animation, to me, is decent for the obvious limited budget and resources they are given. Though, I will say, they are improving with each batch of episodes and the smoothness, especially with the action. Also, since most of the cast is returning either from the shows and/or the movies, they are all great.

Also, while I've gotten used to the character models for the most part, the Ewoks, for some reason, creep me out. I know it's a nitpick, but man, look at those eyes. They're the kind you see while you are trying to fall asleep at night.

Like I mentioned before, the stories do a good job at expanding upon the lore set up previously. As mentioned, one episode was a straight up deleted scene. The episode with Sabine and Tristan, they are trying to preserve a statue of Tar Vizsla, which was the Mandalorian Jedi mentioned in Rebels. You even get to see what he would have looked like. Plus, I love seeing Luke and Leia, and especially Hera, in the time after Return of the Jedi.

This all proves that this show is great at showing "In between" or "Behind-the-scenes" moments and events that you normally wanted get to witness, which is a positive.

So yeah, much like before, I think these stretch of episodes are fine for what they are and what they represent. I'll admit I liked the episodes more that were released in March, but there was nothing I flat out disliked. For kids, they are fun pieces of entertainment. For adults, they aren't a must watch, but it is neat to see some of the little moments. Plus, the episodes, in total, are about 15 minutes, so it's not like it's a major commitment to watch them.
