5 Things That Could Be a Part of Jessica Jones Season 2

It’s been a good month since Jessica Jones premiered on Netflix, so the spoilers have officially transitioned to things everyone would know if they want to be cool. Fortunately, at that point comes the other stage of wondering what the hell will happen in another season should there be one. Considering they’re already knee-deep in Luke Cage, preparing to release Daredevil Season 2, and working on somehow bringing Iron Fist back to life, it’s fair enough to not be holding your breath in waiting for something that wouldn’t come until about 2018. Still, for a series as impressive as Jessica Jones, there are a number of possibilities for another season in this angle of Hell’s Kitchen. Here are just a few.

IGH

The most obvious direction for the series to take, an exploration into the secret chemical company behind Simpson’s Matrix pills and Jessica’s superpowers as a teenager. There have been a number of secret organizations within the MCU, so it’s not exactly revolutionary to give another one attention. More importantly, this can give some much-needed backstory to Jessica’s powers that was only lightly touched upon in season one. Unless Peter Parker got bitten by a spider in the middle of that car crash, I highly doubt it’s going to be any closer to her comic origins. That’s honestly for the best because the comic version wasn’t all that kind to her character, but it does lead to a lot of unanswered questions.

More importantly, we can learn the different details about what they’re after, why they keep making super-strength based items, and why they seemed to work fine for Jessica these past several years. Not to mention, there’s still the question of why hasn’t the group come after her following an obvious accident and a much-publicized take-in by the Walkers. Either way, this can lead back into another battle of more undercover activity rather than outright punching, though I doubt anyone will beat Kilgrave as a villain. However, unlike Kilgrave, this can be the perfect opportunity to answer new questions and provide a new path of redemption for Jessica, because heaven knows she needs it.

Hellcat and Nuke

We already saw the budding futures of the hero and villain through Trish’s Krav Maga lessons and Simpson’s pills, but season two could be the time to fully explore these identities. Unfortunately, they probably wouldn’t involve the Hellcat costume or the full-on American flag face tattoo, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a name or two. If they can somehow squeeze in Jewel, they can probably work with the much more promising Hellcat or Nuke. Since both characters lived to see another day, their futures will definitely be discussed.

The only real problem will be fitting this in with everything else that needs to be said and done in this season. We’ll still need new characters for the IGH stuff, a reappearance of Luke Cage because their relationship has to continue, and the additional side characters including the disappointing Hogarth and the superior Malcom. With the superhero/villain characteristics and the fact that the characters have a very sexual history together in the show, this will undoubtedly be a side plotline.

The Accords

Now comes the less predictable storylines for season two, but wouldn’t they be interesting if they happened? Season two of Jessica Jones would easily take place in the world after Civil War and the world opinion of superheroes. We’ve already seen a pretty lackluster episode revolved around Jessica’s encounter with a less than supportive person for gifted, but post-Civil War could add a whole new layer to the animosity. Jessica uses her powers almost without thinking, so if the city becomes less warm to the idea of superheroes, the whole platform can change. There doesn’t have to be a direct reference to it (there are rarely direct references anyway), but they could still be a theme.

Persuasion and the Purple Children

This is more born out of the fact that it would probably be pretty hard for them to let Kilgrave go. Even Daredevil’s looking to bring back the Kingpin. Don’t get me wrong, Kilgrave is definitely dead. They won’t revisit that. What I’m referring to is more repercussions from his actions that we haven’t yet seen to a full extent. In the comics, Kilgrave got plenty of women pregnant with his children. When these kids got a little older and banded together, they found that they could harness their powers to an even greater degree than their father. Through this, the Purple Children, as they were dubbed, of course used their powers for evil and had to be taken down by being separated and destroyed. A kind of evil gathering of his children over the years could be a creepy development for a season.

Another option could be just a focus on the more notable child of Kilgrave, Persuasion. Unlike the Purple Children, Persuasion actually plays for the good guys despite her similar albeit weaker powers compared to her father’s. The show actually briefly touched upon the idea with Hope being impregnated and even further with the use of the fetal parts in a treatment to enhance Kilgrave’s powers. If the fetal parts themselves could enhance Kilgrave, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that a fully-grown person could inherit his abilities or even that other women besides Hope could get pregnant. The plot doesn’t need this additional story, but it can always be an option.

The Defenders

In all honesty, the closest that another season of Jessica Jones could come out is after The Defenders, and that’s if everything goes according to plan. In that case, a season two would rely solely on the events that happen after that series. Who dies, who was the villain, and how Hell’s Kitchen makes it out after those thirteen episodes would factor into another season. There’s no way to properly predict for that except to acknowledge that…it would. If that means more references at least to the universe that this take place in, I’m all for it.

Well, those are only five of the things that could happen in season two of Jessica Jones. I feel as though it’s pretty fair to consider one if Daredevil was a sure thing. If not, and they would probably push back an announcement as far as possible, it’s at least fun to wonder what could have been…or will be. I’m never quite sure.
