6 Possible Subtitles for Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Guardians2TitleCard_edited.jpg

The second film in Marvel's smash hit cosmic superhero saga, Guardians of the Galaxy, is still in early development, but it's already the talk of the town. Director James Gunn has already given word on what characters may or may not appear in the series, and he recently tweeted out a photo of the cover page for the first draft of the sequel's screenplay. While the subtitle was intentionally hidden, that won't stop us speculating just what it may be!

While the subtitle was completly obcured from the image posted on Twitter, it has been analyzed and... Let me spare you the screenwriting nerdage, see the picture above for an explanation. It can be deduced that the subtitle of the film will contain six typed characters. This can include letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation. With that in mind, let's consider what Marvel, James Gunn, and the Guardians themselves might label this second adventure.

Vol. 2

We all know this movie is gonna have a rockin soundtrack, and this title also works as a serial esque title but with the wit and charm of the Guardains world. It's goofy but also with a reference to the musical awesomeness of the series.

Part 2

It's a silly and lame title, which could be the point. And the Star Warsy feel of Guardains could justify a serial inspired title, like calling it an episode or a chapter. We all know this movie is gonna make bank which means there is gonna be a Part 3. While Guardians is a peice of the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is still off in it's own part of that universe and detached from everyone else. This is it's own story, and this is Part 2.

Sequel

This might be even lamer than "Part 2," but can't you imagine Drax or Gamora coming up with this? Or how Star Lord is a huge fan of movies and stuff from earth (like Footloose) but he could be totally uncreative and not know a good title when he sees one. It's simple and straight to the point with a comedic charm to it. I honestly can't think of any second story that actually has the balls to put the word "sequel" in it's title. You know what Guardians has? Balls. That movie was balls incarnate.

Deluxe

This word means luxurious or sumptuous (according to this free Dictionary app on my computer.) We last saw the Guardians in their red Ravagers uniforms. Imagine them finally getting the more well known (to comic readers) blue and yellow costumes? That would be deluxe. Star Lord getting a new mask helmet thing? Deluxe. Maybe we open on them pulling off a big heist or something and they get all this money and upgrade all of their tech and give the Milano a new paint job. Now that would be deluxe.

Korvac

The saga of Michael Korvac is considered one of the greatest cosmic Marvel storylines. I only know of Mr. Korvac through a terrible episode of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, where he was some Earth man who gets powers from the Kree and goes crazy or something. I don't know, the cosmic side of Marvel is where I have the least about of knowledge. Korvac is a top contender from the identity of Star Lord's father. It's not a marketable title, but it's something.

Beyond

It not only means to go forward, to the next adventure, but also referrs to going past what has come before, over the edge and into a new world. The Guardians could go beyond their normal stomping grounds and head to a new part of the Galaxy, one they have never been to before. And it would tie in to the theories about the Beyonder appearing and even being Star Lord's father. That would be awesome! It could also inspire a funny Buzz Lightyear joke.

There are truly an infinite possability of six letter titles for this movie. Second. Next 1. Return. Who knows, maybe James Gunn jsut hit the space bar a bunch of times to mess with us. What do you think of these six ideas? What do you think the subtitle will be?
